I have not seen many of the children wearing
their noses (even though I did have mine on this morning to greet them at the
gate) but I do know they are looking forward to the bake sale after school. I
do think that it is good to support causes like this and I would like to thank
all the people who have bought noses or donated cakes. There are a lot of bad
things happening in the world at the moment and I think that doing anything we
can to support the people going through these terrible events is vital. If ever
I think that life is not treating me fairly I just watch the news for 10
minutes and I realise how lucky I am.

It has been Science week in school this week and the
children have been really enjoying all the different activities that have taken
place. This week is a really popular event on the school calendar and I know
that the teachers enjoy it almost as much as the children. I would like to thank the teachers for all
the additional work that they have put in to organising the extra activities -
I would especially like to thank Miss Davis (Year 3) who has co-ordinated the
whole event.

Looking after the wellbeing of the school community in
Little Heath has always been a priority for us and we are pleased to announce
that this has been acknowledged externally as we have been awarded a National
Silver Wellbeing award. This award highlights how we put wellbeing at the heart
of learning, teaching and leadership. We are very proud to have achieved this
and I would like to thank all the people who work in the school who have helped
to make this possible. I would especially like to thank Mrs Cresswell who co-ordinated
all the material so we could achieve this award. Without all her hard work all
our good work would not have been recognised.

The weather has been very changeable this week but at least
we have experienced some better weather – especially yesterday. Let us hope we
see some more of that kind of weather this weekend. I look forward to seeing you
all again on Monday.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-77838148055476565062024-03-08T04:57:00.000-08:002024-03-08T04:57:25.333-08:00
It has certainly been a very exciting week on school. It started on Monday when the interviews were
held to find who would replace me in September. As the children were involved in
some of the activities it was quite an unusual day for them as well but I think
they did enjoy meeting all the different candidates. It was an extremely
rigorous process for all the people involved but as you all know Mr Gradwell
was the successful candidate. I know that parents as well as all the school
staff are pleased with that result. I am really glad that he was successful as
I have worked very happily with him for 6 years and I know that Little Heath
Primary School is very important to him and that he will work very hard to
ensure that the school keeps moving forward successfully.

Yesterday was another exciting day as it was World Book
Day. I think it is very important to
keep the profile of reading high as it is one of the most important life skills
for children to acquire. The children all looked great in their costumes and I
got a lot of compliments about my costume as I came dressed as Cruella De
Ville. The worrying thing is that people kept telling me that it was a great
costume but 85% of it was actually all my own clothes –perhaps I need to make
some changes to my wardrobe! For those of you who did not see me, I have
included a photograph of how I looked below.

We ended the week with the Year 2 Assembly. It was based on
the learning that the children have covered this term and the class presented
it really well. The continent song that they sang at the end was very popular with
everyone in the assembly. I would like to thank the children for doing such an
amazing job and I would Like to thank Mrs. Beadle, Mrs. Alimadadi and Mrs Rexhaj for
their work in helping them put it together.

Next week is another action-packed week in school as it is
Science Week. The children really enjoy this as they love carrying out all the practical
activities and experiments. To help make it even more interesting for the
children we have an external company coming into school on Thursday and Friday
to carry out some additional activities with the children.

Just to add to the excitement it is Red Nose Day on Friday.
I know the children have been purchasing red noses and they can wear them next
Friday. They also do not have to wear uniform as long as one of the items they
are wearing is red. As this is such a worthy cause I decided to hold a cake sale
at the end of the day to help us raise some extra money for the charity. Items
for the cake sale can be brought into school from Thursday. Please do not send
in any produce containing nuts and if you want your cake container returned
please make sure that it has your name on it.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. There have been
glimpses of Spring this week so hopefully we will see some of them over the
weekend.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-20960002390932642112024-03-01T05:23:00.000-08:002024-03-01T05:23:56.718-08:00
Welcome back! I hope you all had a pleasant half –term. For
those of you who remained in this country I know that you experienced a lot of
rain and we have certainly had our fair share of it this week. I just hope that
when we get to May and we get our first glimmer of sunshine that they do not
try and tell us that we have a shortage of water because I do not think that
anybody would believe them. I have also just depressed myself with that last
sentence because I certainly do hope that we get a glimmer of sunshine before
May!

It has been a busy week in school since our return and I
think that as it is such a short half term (only 4 weeks and 4 days) that every
week until the end of term is going to be a busy week. We have started our ‘Eat
Them to Defeat Them’ campaign which involves the school kitchen encouraging the
children to eat more vegetables. As an adult I truly like all vegetables but I
can remember as a child being less than happy at eating more than a small range
of vegetables so I certainly think it is a worthy campaign to support. I have
to say though that when I discussed the benefits of eating vegetables in
assembly I was very impressed by the amount of knowledge and information that
the children had about vegetables. They are certainly better informed than I
was as a child.

Year 2 also had an exciting day on Wednesday as it was their
Great Fire of London workshop. Dressed in their authentic costumes they had a
wonderful day experiencing crafts and activities which reflected how people
lived at the time of the Fire of London. To make this event possible we needed
a number of parent volunteers to come in and support the children and I would
like to thank them for giving up their time to do so. When I spoke to some of
them I think that they enjoyed the event as much as the children.

Today is a day that a lot of children dread because the
annual school reports have been sent out. After reading all the reports I do
not think that any of the children have too much to worry about although I do
advise them to read their teachers’ comments carefully and follow their advice
because it will help them improve their learning. I would also ask, as I do in
the letter that accompanies the report that you do not compare your child’s
grades and report with other children as this can cause distress.

There is a lot happening again in school next week but I
think that the event that will excite them the most is World Book Day which is
on Thursday. I know that the children are coming dressed as book characters again
this year which they love and it always makes it a colourful day in school. I
will not be in school in the morning but I will be in later to see them in
their outfits.

I hope you all have a great weekend – let us hope that the
rain stops for a while and we have a little sunshine – roll on spring!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-15706455604136742332024-02-16T06:28:00.000-08:002024-02-16T06:28:25.895-08:00
There has been a really party feel to the end of the week.
It has been ‘Crazy Hair Day’ in school and people have certainly gone to town
with their hair. This followed our Spring discos last night. They were both
well attended and from what I saw all the children were having a great time.
Both these events have been organised by our wonderful PTA and I cannot thank
them enough for all the amazing events that they put on to help raise funds for
the school. Little Heath would certainly not be the well -resourced school that
it is without all their support. The next event that they are putting on is a
quiz night on March 2nd. I hope to see many of you there.

Apart from the PTA events there have also been a lot of
other events taking place in school. Tuesday was certainly a busy day as
Reception and Year 1 had a trip to the Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead and Year
5 had a Viking Day in the hall. I went to the Snow Centre and it was lovely to
see the excitement on the children’s faces at seeing the snow inside the centre.
Most of them found going down the slopes very exciting although a couple were a
little scared and I can understand that feeling as well. They all gave it a go
though which is the main thing.

I did not take part in the Viking day as I was at the Snow
Centre but I did catch up with the man running the event on my return to school
and he told me that he had a fabulous day with the Year 5 children. He told me
that their behaviour was exemplary and that he was amazed at the amount of
knowledge that they knew about the Vikings –he said that they could answer
questions that children from other schools had never been able to answer. I
certainly felt very proud at that moment.

Next week it is the half term break which I am sure you are
all looking forward to –I know that I am. I hope you all have a fabulous break
and I look forward to seeing you all again on February26th.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-65262102819118952132024-02-09T06:33:00.000-08:002024-02-09T06:33:09.478-08:00
I know I say that the weeks just feel like they fly by but
as I have had to be out of school for 2 days I truly cannot believe that it is
Friday again - one more week and it is half-term. The Christmas holidays feel
like they were a life-time ago. Unfortunately, the weather has also taken a bit
of a dip this week so whilst last week I was feeling like spring was on the way
this week has made me realise it is still winter.

This week has been a very thought provoking week in school
as it has been Children’s Mental Health Week. The children have been looking at
strategies to help support them with their well-being which is very important
in ensuring they have good mental health. The children have also covered
internet safety this week which is also very important. As we all know from
watching the news mental health problems in children are at an all-time high
and I think that one of the reasons for this is the amount of information and
contact they have with the outside world through social media. Although the
internet has many benefits children need to know how to manage social media to
ensure it does not have a negative impact on their life. Hopefully with what we
teach them at school we are helping them with this.

Next week in school is one of the highlights of the school
calendar because it is the PTA Spring Disco on Thursday night. The Foundation
and KS1 disco starts at 5.30pm and the KS2 disco starts at 7.00pm. We have the
same DJ as last year coning to run the disco and he did an excellent job last
year so I know the children are going to have fun. If you have not already
purchased your tickets make sure you do so.

To finish off the week the PTA have also organised a ’Crazy
Hair Day’ for next Friday. Children can make their hair look as outrageous as
they like – they also do not have to wear their uniform to ensure it does not
get messed up by all the hair spray and possible glitter. It will help give a
party atmosphere to the last day before the half-term holiday.

I hope you all have a great weekend. Let us hope that there
is not too much rain to dampen our spirits. I look forward to seeing you all
again next week.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-65891890977301976732024-02-02T06:41:00.000-08:002024-02-02T06:41:17.791-08:00
We had a lovely end to the week as Year 3 performed their
class assembly for us this morning. I always enjoy a class assembly and as
usual, the Year Three one did not disappoint. The assembly was based on the
learning they did this year and they actually wrote it themselves! The class
did a fantastic job in presenting it and I would like to thank them for doing it
so well –it is not an easy thing to present to a large audience when you are so
young. I would also like to thank Miss Davis, Mrs Reynolds and Mrs Ameen for
helping them to prepare for their assembly.

I also had a lovely start to the week as I attended the O2
on Monday with the choir for a Young Voices concert. This was a fantastic
experience for the children and I have included a couple of pictures from the
concert although they are not the best quality- all the lights and the flashing
cameras make it difficult to take good picture. The choir all had a great day
and they were all a credit to the school both for their performance and their
behaviour. Not many people know but leaving the O2 and getting back to the
carpark after a Young Voices concert is quite a challenge with so many schools
being there but the children made it very easy –unlike some of the stewards who
at times seem quite determined to split our group in two. I know all of those children
who can, would love to do it again next year. I must give big thanks to Mrs
Lawrence and Mrs Robinson who gave up their time to prepare the choir for this
event.

I have had a lovely week but I am going to have to have a
little moan about uniform. I have noticed that there are some lapses coming
into the uniform. As I have mentioned before some of the KS2 pupils are coming
to school without their ties which is not acceptable and I have noticed that
some children are wearing black tights and leggings in school when they should
be grey. Can you please ensure that your child is dressed in the correct school
uniform (and this includes their socks). If you are unsure of what it is,
please check our website. If you have any problems in purchasing your child’s
uniform, please do not hesitate to contact me via the school office.

Next week is another busy week in school. It is Children’s Mental
Health Week and the children will be carrying out some activities related to
this in school. As we all know taking care of your mental health is just as
important as any other part of your health and we do give children strategies
in school on how to manage this. It is also Safer Internet Day and we will be
reminding the children again of the importance of how to keep themselves safe
whilst they are using technology.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend – it is definitely
warmer which makes you feel like spring is on the way. I will be seeing some of
you on Monday morning as a Sharing Assembly is taking place – those of you who
have children involved will have been informed.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-25242978249711170702024-01-26T07:39:00.000-08:002024-01-26T07:39:17.329-08:00
I suppose that the big news of this week has been the fact
that my retirement in the summer has been publicised. I would rather have left
it a little longer to announce it as I know how the prospect of change can be
unsettling for some children but the process of recruiting a new head is a long
one and we did not want the news to spread by word of mouth once the advert
came out which it did on Wednesday. I am retiring because I think it is the
right time to go -I want to be fit enough to enjoy my retirement after a very fulfilling
career in teaching. There is still a
long time until the summer though and I assure you I will be committed to
serving Little Heath as best I can until the day I do retire.

It has certainly been warmer this week but that does not
mean that the weather has not been causing us problems. We certainly did not
have the best start to the week with Storm Isha at the weekend followed by
Jocelyn on Tuesday night. I know some people struggled to get to school on
Monday because of the destruction caused by the storm. Fortunately, we did not
have any damage to the school but I did wake up on Monday morning to the sight
of a large chunk of my back garden fence lying on the lawn. It is certainly not
the start to the working week that you want but fortunately it is being fixed
today so hopefully if another storm comes it will be able to remain standing.

I know the choir are looking forward to next week because
they are performing in a Young Voices concert at the O2. This is certainly a
highlight for all the choir members and if it is as good as last year both the
choir and the audience are in for a treat. They have been preparing for months
and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard
work. I would also like to thank Mrs
Robinson and Mrs Lawrence for all their hard work in preparing them for the
event. I will be joining them at the O2 on Monday. I know that when I do retire
that I will miss attending events like this with the children so I will have to
make sure I make the most of events like this before I leave.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. It certainly looks
more settled than last weekend so hopefully no broken fences this weekend. I
look forward to seeing you all again on Monday morning.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-83234732902057847032024-01-19T07:12:00.000-08:002024-01-19T07:12:04.263-08:00
As usual once the term begins the weeks appear to fly by -I cannot
believe that a whole week has passed since I was last writing my blog. I am
looking out the window at beautiful sunshine but the sunshine is very deceptive
as it is freezing cold. I suppose we should not complain as parts of the
country have been really struggling because of the bad weather but I am sure
that there are some of the children (and adults) who are disappointed because
we have not had any snow (and a Snow day off school).

Despite the cold we have still managed to run most of the
after school clubs which is good because the children love these. It is
important that you do not assume certain activities or clubs are not running
because of the cold. We do assess the weather and conditions on a day by day
basis so do please ensure that your child does come to school with their full
PE kit regardless of what the weather is like outside because conditions can
change throughout the day.

Next week the temperature is set to rise – I cannot believe
that I am getting excited at the thought of it being 10<span style="font-family: "Arial",sans-serif;">ºC although some rain and strong winds has been
forecast as well and that is not good. I
do hope that you have a good weekend (in spite of the cold weather) and I look
forward to seeing you all again next week.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-64448157591818017692024-01-12T06:35:00.000-08:002024-01-12T06:35:40.774-08:00
Welcome back. I hope you have all had a fabulous Christmas
and had a good start to the new year. It has certainly been a cold start for us
this term although today has been milder even though it has only been 6ºc. Due to the weather the children have been
spending more time indoors and as the really cold spell is returning they may
have to do the same next week. However, the children do spend some time
outdoors so can you please make sure that you do send them into school next
week with the appropriate outdoor garments to withstand the cold conditions.

Even though it is the new year I am going to have to have a
little moan. My site manager has informed me that some people are parking up in
front of the school even though we have requested that people do not do this
and we have had a couple of complaints from our neighbours that some people
have been blocking their drives which means that they cannot access their
homes. I have asked on numerous occasions that parents do not do either of
these things. Blocking someone’s drive is against the law and if our neighbours
call the police you will have to deal with them. We also ask that you do not
park in front of the school so that we can keep the area in front of the school
a pedestrian area which makes it safer for our children to walk to and from
school. We do not want an accident to occur before parents take our request seriously.

Next week in school all of our extra-curricular clubs start
again which makes school life a lot more exciting for most of the children. If
you have not done so already, please make sure that you sign them up for their
selected clubs so that they can attend.

I hope you all have a great weekend and I look forward to
seeing you all again next week
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-35365142956008091552023-12-20T04:21:00.000-08:002023-12-20T04:21:25.261-08:00
As I type this I can hear loud laughter coming from the hall
as the children are watching the performance of Dick Whittington. It is bringing
a happy end to what has been an eventful and busy half term. I am sure you are
all looking forward to the Christmas holidays – I know I am and the children
certainly are –their excitement has been off the scale over the last couple of
days.

Even though we have only been here 3 days it has been an
action-packed week in school. We started the week off with our last Sharing
Assembly of 2023 and in the evening we had our annual KS2 Carol Concert. The
church was packed and it was great to see so many family and friends in the
church to watch the service. It really was a lovely concert and the children
who attended should be proud of their performance. I would also like to thank
all the staff who made it possible – especially Mrs Lawrence who co-ordinated
the concert and prepared the children so well for their performance.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had the KS1 and KS2 Christmas
parties which I know the children really enjoyed. KS1 had a special visitor at
their party as Father Christmas made an appearance and I know the children were
very thrilled and excited by that as they could not wait to tell me that they had
seen him (some even thought that they had seen his reindeer and sleigh on the
roof.) After the pantomime this morning we will be finishing the day in the
hall with a rousing performance of the 12 Days of Christmas which is very noisy
but the children love it.

Before I go I would like to thank everyone who has given me
a gift. They are lovely and very much appreciated. All that is left for me to
do now is to wish you all a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year and I look
forward to welcoming you all back on Monday,
8th January.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-42433997583825530182023-12-15T07:46:00.000-08:002023-12-15T07:46:59.316-08:00
The children are all sitting in their classrooms quietly
watching films bringing a quiet end to a very busy and noisy week. I have to
say that the week did not get off to the start I had hoped. The whole school
was excited at the thought of watching the Foundation Stage and KS1 Christmas
shows but there ended up being no school on that day because of a broken
boiler. Fortunately, we managed to get it fixed very quickly and we were able
to come back the next day. I hope this interruption was not too inconvenient
for you. I know these disruptions are never easy to manage but we need to
follow health and safety guidance to ensure that the children are safe in our
setting.

Fortunately, we were able to go ahead with our Christmas
shows for families and friends and they were enjoyed by all those who watched
them. The Nursery and Reception children performed some lovely Christmas songs
for us and Key Stage One performed
‘Lights, Camel ,Action’ which tells the story of the nativity through
the format of a talent contest. All the children did the school proud and I
would also like to thank all the staff who worked so hard to put these shows
together. Without their continued commitment we would not be able to have these
wonderful events which are a highlight of the Christmas season.

The children all looked very festive today in their Christmas
jumpers which helped set a lovely atmosphere for our Christmas dinner. If you
have not already made your donation you can still do so by using the Just
Giving link which the school sent to you by text. The Christmas Jumper charity
supports ‘Save the Children’ which helps to support children all over the world
who are in need. I think we can all agree that this is a very worthy cause.

The fun has not ended in school yet as there is plenty for
the children to look forward to next week. On Monday morning we have a Sharing
assembly and in the afternoon the Foundation stage and Key Stage One children
have their Christmas party to look forward to. In the evening it is the KS2
Carol Concert which we are holding at Christ Church. On Tuesday, KS2 are having
their Christmas Party and on Wednesday the whole school is watching the
pantomime ‘Dick Whittington’ which is always a popular event. I think after all
that the children will be ready for a holiday although the excitement will be
continuing into their holiday as it is Christmas.

Have a great weekend everyone. I am sure that you will all
be busy with Christmas events and preparations but as we still have three days
to go until the end of term please do make sure that the children do not become
over tired as they will not be able to enjoy the events that we have planned
for them in school.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-16782305697008686782023-12-08T06:47:00.000-08:002023-12-08T06:47:26.031-08:00
We are, like I am sure you all are, in the middle of
Christmas preparations. The school is
all decorated for Christmas and the younger children are in the final stages of
rehearsal for their Christmas performances next week. I know they are all very
excited to perform to you and I know that you will all be very excited to see
them perform. These shows are certainly a highlight in my calendar.

I hope you all received the link for our parent
questionnaire. We have kept it open for over the holiday and into the new year
so that we can get as many people as possible to complete it. Your opinion is
very important to us and we want to know what you think about how we are running
the school. Even if you think you have something to say that we do not want to
hear please do complete the questionnaire. We are always open to suggestions
that will help to make Little Heath a better place to be for everyone.

I know that it is getting towards the end of term but we
still need everyone to follow our rules and that includes those for uniform. I
am seeing an increasing number of children coming to school in trainers and
these are not part of school uniform. There may be a good reason why children
do not have the appropriate footwear for a day or two but it should not be
longer than that.

Next week is a very busy week in school. As well as the
Foundation and Key Stage One performances on Tuesday and Wednesday we have Open
Afternoon for parents with children in Years 1-6. This runs from 3.00pm-4.30pm
on Wednesday afternoon. This afternoon gives the parents in these classes an
opportunity to share the learning that their children have covered over the
last half-term. It is not a session
where teachers will discuss your child’s progress with you. On Friday it is
also Christmas Jumper Day and we are also having our school Christmas lunch on
this day as the children will all be dressed in festive jumpers.

The PTA are holding
the draw for their Christmas hampers on Friday 15th December as
well. Some of the hampers are on display
under the Christmas tree in the main entrance and all those that have seen them
are saying how impressive they look (see picture below) so if you want a chance
of winning one please do not forget to purchase your raffle tickets. The link
to buy them is on the front page of our website.

I hope you all have a
great weekend. We are experiencing a lot of illness in school at the moment so
try to ensure that your children get plenty of rest so they are well enough to
enjoy the last week and a half of term. I look forward to seeing you all again
on Monday morning.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-47183487178328757902023-12-01T08:01:00.000-08:002023-12-01T08:01:12.403-08:00
I think we can all agree that winter has definitely arrived. For the first time this term I have had to
defrost my car before coming to work in the mornings. Some people do not like
the cold but I love it when the sun is shining and there is frost on the ground
– especially at this time of year when Christmas is approaching. It really
helps to set the mood for all the festive celebrations.

I am afraid that I am going to have to have a little moan. Unfortunately,
some of the neighbours close to the school have been complaining that parents
are parking their cars across their drives. I am sure that I do not have to
remind you that it is against the law to do this and if people persist in doing
this the neighbours are going to get the police involved. I would also like to
ask you if you can respect our no car zone in front of the school. This has not
happened for a long time but I have noticed recently that more and more parents
are driving their cars up to the school entrance to drop off their children for
school. We try to keep the area in front of the school a pedestrian area only
so that it is safe for the children to come to and from school. We do not want
an accident to happen before people start following our request.

We have started putting our decorations up in school and
this always causes great excitement amongst the children. I know that some
parents also started with their Christmas decorations last night because they
attended a wreath making event organised by the PTA and apparently some lovely
wreaths were made. The PTA also managed to raise an impressive £289 for the
school which is always good news. I would like to thank our amazing PTA again
for all their efforts in fund raising for the school –it is much appreciated.

It is lovely being in
a school at this time of year to see all the enjoyment that the children get
from the Christmas period. I am sure that you are going to be busy with your
Christmas preparations at home but I do hope that you get some time to relax
over the weekend. I look forward to
seeing you on Monday morning when apparently it will still be cold.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-70236843839302528652023-11-24T06:29:00.000-08:002023-11-24T06:29:01.544-08:00
Another Friday, another non-uniform day. Today’s Mufti -Day was because the children
had to bring in donations for the PTA Christmas Hampers and once again Little Heath
parents have been very generous. I would like to thank you all for the lovely
Christmas goodies that you have sent in today –I am certainly going to be
purchasing some tickets for the hampers when they go on sale next week. I also
promised you last Friday that I would tell you how much we raised for Children
in Need this week and I am happy to report that we raised an impressive £279.

As well as a Mufti-day we also had the Year 4 Assembly this
morning. I always love class assemblies and this morning Year 4’s assembly was
about their learning that they have covered this term and the class presented
it really well - they should feel really proud of themselves. I would also like
to thank Ms Davis, Mrs Proudlove, Miss Russon and Mrs Meadows for all their
support in helping the class put their assembly together.

I do not think that we can deny any more that Christmas is
definitely on the way and getting in the spirit of the occasion the PTA have
organised a Christmas wreath-making class in school next Thursday night. I love
to see all the wreaths on the doors at Christmas and if you attend this class
you have a chance to give it an extra personal touch by making it yourself. I
do think that there are a couple of spaces still available so if you are
interested and have not booked a spot contact the school office to see if you
can take part.

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. I am sure that you
will all be getting busy now with preparations for Christmas but I hope you can
still find some time to relax before we all meet again on Monday morning .
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-208422102545488362023-11-17T05:41:00.000-08:002023-11-17T05:41:46.544-08:00
I have been looking at spots all over today. We have not had
an outbreak of Chicken Pox in school but the children have all been wearing
something spotty in aid of Children in Need. We have been collecting in the
donations but if you still have to donate online please do so and then we can
send our donation off to Children in Need. I know that times are difficult but
this is a very worthy charity that does a lot of good so if we can donate as
much as we can I know that the money will be used to make a difference to
children who really need the support.

Next week in school we have another mufti day on Friday.
This time it is in aid of the school because the PTA would like the children to
bring in an item to put in a Christmas Hamper so that we can have our annual
Christmas Hamper raffle which is a great fundraiser for the school. Before you
send the item in can you check that it will still be in date until at least
Christmas which, in case you do not know, is December 25th. In a few
weeks, we will be asking you to purchase raffle tickets to try and win one of
these hampers and I assure you that as someone who has won one in the past, they are well worth winning. My family still talks about the year we had extra
treats at home because I won a Christmas hamper.

Another thing that we have to look forward to next week is
the Year 4 assembly. This is on Friday as well and I know that all the Year 4
children are looking forward to performing in front of their family and the
school. May I remind those of you who have young children that if you are
bringing them to watch the assembly (and we do love them to join us) if
they do create a disturbance you take them out of the hall. There is a lot
of preparation that goes into putting the assemblies on and the children
performing are usually nervous so they need to be able to focus on what they
need to do. A fractious child can distract them from their presentation, which
could impact their confidence in doing something like this again in the
future. Thank you for your co-operation in following our request.

I hope you all have a great weekend. I think we can all agree
that autumn has definitely arrived and our weekends will soon be spent in
getting ready for Christmas which is very exciting but also a lot of hard work
so try and enjoy some relaxation time while you can.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-38379942909507661482023-11-10T06:26:00.002-08:002023-11-10T06:26:24.614-08:00
Another week has flown by -
I cannot believe that we are nearly halfway through November -the ‘C’ word
will definitely soon be entering our vocabulary. This time last week we were
preparing for our annual firework display. I am sure that if you attended you
will agree that it was a great evening and it all went very well. I would like
again to thank everyone who supported the event and I would like to give special
thanks to the members of the PTA who organised the whole event. It takes an
awful lot of work to put an event like this together and without their
commitment Little Heath would not be such a well – resourced school.

I am sorry but I need to have a little moan again about
names not being on uniform. I am constantly going around the school picking up
‘lost ‘uniform but I can only return about 50% of it as it does not have any
name label. If you could please check your child’s uniform over the weekend and
make sure it is all clearly labelled that would be much appreciated. Can I also
ask that if you are marking it with a pen that it is one that has indelible ink
so that it will not disappear if an item of clothing is left outside in the
rain.

Next week is another busy week in school. It is Anti-Bullying
Week and we start that on Monday with ‘Odd Socks Day’ which helps celebrate the
differences between people. On Friday it is ‘Children in Need’ day and this is
a charity that we always support. The children can come into school not wearing
uniform as long as one of the articles of clothing is spotty. The children can bring in a donation of at
least a pound into school or you can make the donation using the link found on below
(it is also on the newsletter).

https://www.justgiving.com/page/little-heath-primary-school-1699441348829

We have not got all the excitement of the fireworks this
weekend but I am sure that you will still have an enjoyable time. I look
forward to seeing you all on Monday (wearing your odd socks).
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-78715604501427517202023-11-03T07:29:00.003-07:002023-11-03T07:29:22.184-07:00
I hope you all had a great half-term. It was lovely to get
an extra hour’s rest on Sunday although the darker nights are not a good thing.
I know the start of autumn and the colder weather can be depressing but there
are so many good things to look forward to in this half-term that it makes the
cold damp conditions much easier to bear.

One of those things that we have to look forward to is our
Fireworks display which is taking place tomorrow night. This is always one of
the highlights of the school calendar and is thoroughly enjoyed by all who
attend. It is a really good fundraiser for the school so I do hope to see many
of you there. Even if the weather is not great as long as you wrap up well the
weather does not matter when you are watching the visual spectacle of fireworks
exploding in the sky. I do hope that I see lots of you there. If you see me,
please do speak to me because sometimes it is hard to pick up faces in the dark
and if I do not acknowledge you it is because I have not recognised your face.

Another thing to look forward to is our first Sharing
Assembly which is on Monday morning. If your child is taking part, you will
have received a letter I do like to see children sharing learning that they are
proud of and I think that having to present it to an audience is a great skill
to develop for their future life. I know that many of the children do get
nervous before doing this but then feel very proud of themselves when they have
completed their presentation.

That is all for now. I do hope you have an enjoyable weekend
and I hope to see many of you at the fireworks tomorrow night.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-60376170544017336592023-10-20T06:22:00.001-07:002023-10-20T06:22:15.800-07:00
We have come to the end of a busy week so thank goodness it
is the half term break. There has been a
‘sea of red’ in school today as all the children and staff have been wearing red
to show their support for the anti-racism movement. We have supported this in
the past as we think this is a very important principle to reinforce in school
and I think that with the atrocities that are happening in the world at the
moment it is an even more important message to reinforce.

I hope you all found the parent consultations useful. All
the people that I have spoken to have told me that they found them very useful
and I hope you all found them that way. Although these meetings do involve a
lot of work for the teachers I know that they do enjoy these meetings because
they know how important parent involvement is to helping children succeed. When
children see their parents interacting with the school in a positive way it
helps them to view school in a positive way which helps to have a positive
impact on their achievement.

We have had a celebrity in school this week and although
many of you will have seen them when you came into the school you may not have
realised it. For those of you who do not know who they are I have included a
photograph below.

As you can see there are a bunch of flowers but they are no
ordinary bunch of flowers. These are flowers that were bought for Madonna to
have in her dressing room at the O2. When she left she left the flowers behind
but somebody who has been working at the 02 gave them to us and they certainly
helped to make an impressive display in our main entrance. Just imagine the stories they could tell us
if only they could speak.

I hope you all have a fabulous half-term. I know from
speaking to some of the children that some of you are heading for sunnier climates
and I am very jealous. I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday, October 30th.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-39614617370607313362023-10-13T06:26:00.002-07:002023-10-13T06:26:32.921-07:00
I know the school had a lovely end to the week because it
was the Year 5 assembly. I unfortunately had to miss it because of another
appointment that I had to attend but I have been informed that Year 5 put on a
really good assembly and that all the pupils did the school proud. I would like
to thank them for all their hard work and I would like to thank Mrs Cresswell
and Mrs Stevenson for all their work in supporting the class.

Next week, as we did last year, we will be supporting ‘Wear
Red Day’ on October 20th which is a day of celebration of the
anti-racism movement. To do this we are holding a non-uniform day but the
children must wear at least one item that is red. In exchange for doing this we
would like the children to bring a donation of at least a pound for the
charity. The children can either make the donation in cash and bring it into
school or you can make the donation on your child’s Arbor portal.

It is also parent consultations next week when all parents
can meet up with their child’s teacher to see how they have settled in their
new year group s and to see how they are progressing with their learning. The
teachers look forward to these meetings because they know how important it is
to have parental support for children to achieve their potential. May I remind
you that these appointments are for 10 minutes (15 minutes for Year 6) and if
at the end of your appointment you feel there is something you would like to
discuss with the teacher in more detail could you please make an appointment
for a later date. If everybody runs over by just a minute or two it can cause a
big delay for parents who come after them and also may cause them to be late
for their appointments with other teachers.

Unfortunately, it does appear that the beautiful Indian
summer that we have all been enjoying has gone. However, I am sure that will
not stop you all enjoying your weekend. I look forward to meeting up with you
all again on Monday morning. Just one week until we can all enjoy a lovely
break.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-81260816224105218522023-10-06T05:54:00.002-07:002023-10-06T05:54:26.770-07:00
We certainly had an exciting morning in school as it was our
annual Harvest Festival event. I really enjoy this as it gives me an
opportunity to meet lots of parents. The children performed some lovely songs
connected with harvest and it certainly appeared that a good time was had by
all. I would like to thank our wonderful PTA for organising the drinks this
morning and I would like to thank all you parents for your kind donations of
cakes and biscuits and for the money donated in purchasing them at the event.
This year we are supporting Water Aid which I think is an amazing charity
because it helps bring clean water to parts of the world where they do not have
this. I really find it hard that everyone does not have access to clean water
in the twenty first century which is why I think that this is a really
important charity to support.

This is obviously a big week for saying thank you because I
would also like to thank everyone who purchased a book from our book fair. I do
think that teaching children to read is the most important skill that we can
teach them in education and if they have access to good books it makes the task
so much easier. We will let you know how
much we have raised when Scholastic let us know and we will use this money to
purchase new books for the children to read in school.

There is more to look forward to next week as Year 5 will be
presenting our first class assembly of the year. I always enjoy these and I
know parents really enjoy seeing their children on the stage as well. An awful
lot of work goes into putting these assemblies on so I would like to remind you
all that whilst we love to have families come to watch these events that if you
bring young children and they start to make a noise or become upset that you
take them out of the hall so that the children on stage do not become
distracted and are unable to perform. Presenting in front of an audience at
such a young age can be a nerve –wracking experience but we feel that it is an
important skill to master and we do not want them to be put off from taking
part by a distraction in the audience.

Looking at the weather today summer has not left us yet and
apparently it is going to remain warm all weekend so I do hope you all have a
chance to enjoy it. I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday morning.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-45214839080201914902023-09-29T05:29:00.002-07:002023-09-29T05:29:33.052-07:00
We have had another lovely week in school. There is still
some warmth in the air and we have even had some sunshine although we do know
that autumn is well on its way because it is becoming darker earlier in the
evenings.

The after school clubs have been running for a while now and
I do know that the children love attending them. However, may I remind you that
children should be signed on in advance to attend the club and they should not
just be turning up on the day the club is running for a one off session. If children cannot attend they should tell
the person running the club in advance. The clubs are not organised for the
children to attend only if they feel like it. Once they sign up they should
make a commitment to attend and if they do not enjoy the club they should
inform the person running it so they can be removed from the club list allowing
other children to join.

I am looking forward to next week because one of my
favourite events of the year, our Harvest Festival, is on next Friday. I hope
you have checked our newsletter for the slot that your child will be performing
in although it is a flexible arrangement and if you need to take both of your
children out at the same time we can accommodate that. Please remember to send
in your donations of cakes and biscuits on Wednesday and Thursday.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to
seeing you all on Monday morning.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-31575144130994040262023-09-22T05:33:00.002-07:002023-09-22T05:33:35.510-07:00
It came as a bit of a shock to me whilst I was organising
the events for next week that it will be the last week in September. Where did
that month go? It does not feel like more than 2 minutes since we were
preparing for the children to return to school after the summer break! They do say that time flies when you are
having a good time so perhaps that is a good sign.

I hope that you all managed to watch the news item about Artificial
Intelligence that I sent you the link for last week. It did feel a little
strange to see the place where you work being used for a news segment but I
think that you will agree that the children all did us proud. Another parent who works for the BBC has sent
me the link below for an extended version of the story which I think is well
worth watching. It has had thousands of views since it was published on
Thursday and is a featured video on the BBC World Service. I think it is great
that our school has been involved in such an important issue for children

https://youtu.be/ojjn9T_fuUw

We have a really good week in school and the school has felt
full of energy which I love. Unfortunately, a side effect of all the children
mixing together after a long holiday is that they pass lots of germs around and
some children have had to miss school this week because they have been unwell.
I would just like to remind you all that if your child has to miss school for
either sickness or diarrhoea then they need to be off school for 48 hours after
their last bout of sickness or diarrhoea. E.g.
if your child is sick on a Monday the earliest they can return to school
is Wednesday.

The weather has not been the best this week but apparently
it is going to get warmer this weekend which is something to look forward to. I
hope you all have an enjoyable break and I look forward to seeing you all again
on Monday morning.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-11452948297845819592023-09-15T05:43:00.002-07:002023-09-15T05:43:28.406-07:00
The weather has remained kind to us and we have had another
lovely week. We are certainly trying to make the most of the weather and be
outside as much as possible before the autumn descends upon us. We will look
back on this time with fondness when we are trying to get through the dark
winter months of January and February. It has been particularly great weather for
our first week of extra-curricular activities.

I hope that many of you managed to watch the news item about
artificial intelligence that was on the BBC this week in which our old Year 6
pupils participated in. The story raised some very salient points and I am glad
that we were able to support such an important story. The children really
enjoyed taking part and as it was in the last week of term it helped to give
them another enjoyable memory of Little Heath. If you have not managed to see
it yet I have copied some links below to enable you to see it. I would like to
thank Mr Boleto for including our school in his report and we hope our children
may be given further invites in the future.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/news/watch_newsround

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/66796495

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001qh8l

I hope you will excuse me for having a little moan. The
children have only been back about two weeks and I have already lost count of
the number of items of ‘lost uniform’ that I have had to pick up. I have tried
to return as many as I can but I have had to put a lot in the lost property box
because they have no name on them. We do keep asking for the children’s uniform
to be labelled clearly and yet every year a lot of uniform that is not, cannot be
returned to its rightful owner. Can I ask once again that you check that all
your children’s uniform contains your child’s name in a place that can be
easily seen. We will then not have to put out the mountain of uniform at the
end of every term because all items will be able to be returned to their
rightful owner.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I think you all need
to make the most of the sunshine because it does look like it is going to
disappear next week.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-51083578883834359882023-09-08T05:22:00.000-07:002023-09-08T05:22:12.376-07:00
I hope you are all feeling rested and rejuvenated after the
summer break. It has been lovey to have sunny weather this week because the
sunshine does just make everyone feel better – it is a pity that we could not
have seen more of it over the actual summer break.

As always the children have settled into school well and it
does feel like we have never been away –I do not know if that is a good or a
bad thing. It has been lovely walking around the school seeing them all engaged
in their learning - even all our new youngsters who appear to be adapting to
school life very well. Starting school is a real milestone in a child’s life
and it is great to be part of such a momentous occasion and we certainly work
hard to make sure it is an enjoyable time for them.

Next week all the extra-curricular clubs start and for many
children these certainly help to enhance the school experience. If you have not
yet signed your child up to join any, please make sure that you do it as soon
as possible.

With the weather set to last I hope that you all have an
enjoyable weekend. I think we all need to make the most of this lovely weather
before the chill of autumn descends upon us.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2287113277155120042.post-2838000500028951362023-07-21T04:29:00.002-07:002023-07-21T04:29:44.513-07:00
What a week it has been. It has all passed in a blur and we
are now at the end of the academic year. They do say that as you get older time
passes by more quickly and I am sadly at that stage in my life where I find
that is certainly true. It really does feel like it was just a couple of weeks
ago when it was September and the beginning of term.

It has certainly been a lovely and busy week to end the year
with though. On Tuesday the PTA had their Summer Fun Day and it was enjoyed by
everyone who attended. They managed to raise an amazing £1749.88 which will
certainly help to support the school in the coming year. I would like to thank
everyone who supported the event and to our wonderful PTA who organised the fun
day. Without this support Little Heath would certainly not be such a
well-resourced school.

Many of us will be looking forward to a holiday but we are
also sad at this time of year as our Year 6 are leaving us and will not be
returning in September. They have had a fun and action packed week. Firstly,
they performed their leaver’s show, ‘I’m am 11 Year Old – Get Me Out of Here’
to the school and their families. They
all performed it very well and everyone who watched it found it very
entertaining and enjoyable. They then took part in the annual ‘Teachers v Year
6 Rounders Game’ and, I am sad to say, that the staff were beaten again. CBBC
then came in to do some filming with them regarding how artificial intelligence
is being used in educational programmes and I know they are looking forward to
being on television in the autumn. They ended the week with their Leavers
Assembly this morning which was both a happy and sad occasion in equal
measures. We do hope that they have enjoyed their time with us and are taking
many happy memories with them. We also hope that they feel well prepared for
the next stage of their education and that they can all achieve their dreams in
the future. They have another fun event to look forward to as they are having
their Leavers’ Party later this evening.

As it is the end of term I have been very fortunate to
receive some lovely gifts from parents and I would like to thank everyone who
has sent me a gift. I hope you all have a great holiday and I look forward to
welcoming you all back on Monday, 4th
September for the start of what I hope is going to be another wonderful
school year.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
