The week has passed by in a whirl –it does not feel like two minutes since I was writing my last blog and yet a week has passed and here we are at the end of term. If the next term passes as quickly as this one has, it will be summer before we know it. I must admit that I am longing for summer weather because I am really fed up of all this rain –it has really had a negative impact on our sporting programme as well as my general outlook.

This week in school has been dominated by the performance of ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’. It has proven to be a wonderful show and has been raved about by all those who have watched it. I am very proud of all the children and I would like to thank all the Year 3, 4 and 5 staff for all their efforts in putting the show together –all their efforts have certainly been worthwhile. I would also like to thank the PTA and all the parents who supported them for providing refreshments during the interval. Their constant support of the school is much appreciated as their fundraising makes a huge difference to the resources that we have to support your child’s learning.

Every time we put on a performance, as we do not charge for watching the show, we always choose a charity to support and this year we decided to keep it local and support the ‘Potters Bar Food Bank’. We managed to collect an impressive £207.25 which I know the charity will really appreciate. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our collection.

Year 2 also had a special event on this week as they had a ‘Fire of London’ day in school. It was a lovely event for them but it was made possible by a large number of parents volunteering to support it. I would like to thank all the parents who did help out and make this day possible for the children. Days like this make learning so much more enjoyable for the children and because they enjoy it so much they retain the information for a very long time which enhances their learning.

We now have a 2 week break to look forward to. I hope you all have a good holiday and come back feeling refreshed and re-energised and looking forward to the new term ahead which starts on Tuesday, 18th April.

I cannot believe that we break up for Easter next week. This term feels like it has flown by but I also think the reason that I cannot believe that it is nearly Easter is because of the weather. When is the warmer weather going to arrive? I am really tired of having to wear layers to stay warm and although they keep telling us that we are not getting enough rain I feel like I am standing out in the rain quite a lot. Sometimes, at this time of year, we have allowed the children to start playing on the field again but it has been too damp for us to allow them to do this. Let us hope that the weather picks up over the Easter break.

As you all probably remember it was Red Nose Day last Friday and our contribution towards this worthy event was to sell the red noses. This year we managed to raise £376 and I would like to thank everyone who did purchase a nose from us. Unfortunately, we did not sell all the noses that we purchased. I think this is because they only had one design and the design itself was not very strong. I know that a few children broke their noses almost as soon as they opened them –I do think that the creators will have to re-think their design for next year.

The big event for next week is the Year 3,4 and 5 production of ‘Pirates of the Curry Bean’. There have been lots of rehearsals for the show this week and from the parts I have seen you are all in for a treat next week. For those of you with children in those year groups make sure that you have reserved your tickets for the performances –you certainly do not want to miss out. We also have a ‘Sharing assembly’ on Monday morning so I will also see some of you at that.

Despite the fact that the weather is still not warm I hope you all have a good weekend. If the weather is bad outside it does give us a good excuse to do nothing but relax on the sofa.9

Friday 17 March 2023

I would like to start by thanking everyone for their kind words since I returned to school. I am glad to report that my operation was very straightforward and that I have made a ’textbook recovery’ according to my doctor. It has been really good to return to work as I was getting a little stir crazy in my house and as long as I do not pick up anything too heavy for the next few weeks I should be absolutely fine. I have to admit that I think I am in a lot better condition that some people who have not been away from work as there have been some very nasty viruses that have been going around in my absence and some of the staff and children have been quite unwell. I do hope that anyone who has been under the weather starts to feel better soon.

A disappointing thing for me is that because of my operation I was unable to join the Y3/4 PGL trip to Caythorpe Court. I went last year and all the children had a really good time and from what I have heard and from the pictures I have seen they are having another great time this year. These excursions are excellent experiences for the children to have and are only made possible by school staff giving up their free time –time they could be spending with their own families. I am sure you will join with me in thanking them for doing this.

It has been quite an exciting time for the children left behind today because it is ‘Red Nose Day’ and there has been a blur of red in school today. This is a very worthy cause and I would like to thank everyone who has purchased a red nose from us. When I know the total of what we have raised through the sale of the noses I will let you know.

Next week we still have lots to look forward to because we are continuing our Science Week as it had to be cut short because of the Y3/4 trip. On Monday we have an outside company coming in to carry out some exciting experiments with some of the children and I know that the children will really enjoy them. If your child is in Nursery or Reception there are also parent consultations taking place so if you have not made your appointment to see your child’s teacher there is still time to do so.

I hope you all have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday morning.
